Vilmorin/KWS get EU nod for GM maize jv
French seed company Vilmorin & Cie (Paris) and German seed company KWS (Einbeck) have received European Commission approval for their 50:50 joint venture, Genective, to develop genetically modified maize traits. The companies agreed the venture in October 2011 with a focus on first generation herbicide tolerance and insect resistance traits (Agrow No 627, p 4). They expect the first herbicide tolerance traits to become available for purchase in the US within three years. The companies hope that the traits will enable each partner to market GM maize seeds including their own technology globally.
