EFSA issues guidance on agchem/bee assessment
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has issued specific guidance for assessing the risks of pesticides to bees. The document covers the assessment of additional exposure routes, and also considers sub-lethal and long-term effects. Previous pesticide assessment guidelines did not take full account of risks from chronic or repeat exposure to pesticides or the potential risk to larvae, the EFSA says. In addition, they were limited to honeybees, whereas the new guidance adds schemes for bumble bees and solitary bees.
