Canadian soybean and maize areas rise
The area of soybeans planted in Canada this year has risen by 10.5% to a record 4.6 million acres (1.9 million ha), according to the June survey by Statistics Canada. The increase was mainly due to a 35.6% rise in the area in the province of Manitoba to a record 1.1 million acres. This was the sixth consecutive annual gain in the province, Statistics Canada notes. The national area was expected to rise by 3.4% to 4.3 million acres (Agrow No 665, p 14).
