US NGOs protest EPA glyphosate tolerances rise

US environmentalist groups are urging the EPA to reverse a new rule allowing higher levels of the herbicide, glyphosate, on an array of foods. The organisations say that the Agency is ignoring evidence of human and environmental health concerns associated with increasing the allowable residue limits of glyphosate. The EPA’s new regulation would “increase the dietary exposure risks from this chemical, which is unacceptable given that commercially viable alternatives are in place for growing food and controlling weeds”, the NGOs say in their July 1st letter to the Agency.
