India extends consultation period on biotech authority bill
The public consultation period for the Biotechnology Regulatory Authority of India (BRAI) Bill has been extended by 45 days. The consultation was opened last month for 30 days ending July 10th (Agrow No 667, p 19). The Bill was tabled in the Lok Sabha (lower house of Parliament) in April (Agrow No 663, p 24) and was sent to a parliamentary standing committee for review in May (Agrow No 665, p 23). The BRAI is envisaged to act as a single-window clearance for field trial approvals for genetically modified crops and it is meant to replace the Genetic Engineering Appraisal Committee.
