Brazil MPs committee backs aerial agchems use
Brazil’s parliamentary agriculture committee has approved the aerial application of certain insecticides. The assent followed a debate on the link between use of the pesticides and bee deaths. The active ingredients assessed were the neonicotinoid insecticides, imidacloprid, thiamethoxam and clothianidin, and the phenylpyrazole insecticide, fipronil. The committee found that restriction on the use of the pesticides would be as prejudicial to agriculture as a lack of bees. It backed proposal PDC 809/12, rejecting a ban on the aerial application of products based on those ais.
