South Korea OKs Syngenta's GM maize stack
Syngenta has received South Korean food and feed approval for its genetically modified insect-resistant and herbicide-tolerant maize stack, Agrisure 3122. It combines Syngenta's MIR162 (Bt Vip3A toxin), Bt11 (Cry1Ab) and Dow AgroSciences/DuPont's Herculex 1 (Cry1F) for above-ground pest control with MIR604 (mCry3A) and Herculex RW (Cry34Ab1 + Cry35Ab1) for corn rootworm (Diabrotica spp) control. The line is also tolerant to the herbicides, glyphosate and glufosinate-ammonium. Syngenta received US EPA approval for the trait stack in the refuge-in-a-bag product, Agrisure Viptera 3122 E-Z Refuge in 2012 (Agrow No 644, p 20). Import approvals have been granted in Canada, Japan, Mexico, the Philippines and Taiwan.
