Canada confirms clothianidin approval renewal
The Canadian Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) has confirmed its intention to renew the conditional registration of Sumitomo Chemical subsidiary Valent Canada's neonicotinoid insecticides, Clutch 50 WDG and Arena 50 WDG (both clothianidin). They were approved in 2009 for use on potatoes, grapevines, pome and stone fruit, and turf. The registrations were conditional on the supply of additional data by December 2012. The PMRA proposed renewing the approvals last year with a new deadline of December 2015 for data submission. Among the required studies is one to assess chronic toxicity to bees (Agrow No 654, p 19).
