Monsanto completes US veg seed site expansion
Monsanto has completed the $31 million expansion of its vegetable seed research headquarters in Woodland, California, US. That includes the construction of a 90,000 sq ft (8,360 m) "state-of-the-art" laboratory building. The site becomes Monsanto’s facility for molecular breeding of vegetable seeds. The expansion also makes Woodland the largest laboratory of its kind for vegetable seed health testing, and makes it the company’s largest with around 250 full-time staff and 150 seasonal contract employees, Monsanto says. The Woodland area has become a hub for seed science and one that produces most of all the vegetables grown in the US, Monsanto says.
