GM maize commercial applications mount in Mexico
Companies have submitted five applications for commercial planting of genetically modified maize this year in Mexico. That brings the total number of applications to 11 after six were submitted in 2012 (Agrow No 654, p 14). Unconfirmed reports claim that the first approvals for GM maize have been granted this month. However, the most up-to-date (August 13th) issued register of the approval status of applications for planting GM maize at the Mexican food quality and health service, the food quality service, the Senasica, lists all applications as under assessment.
