EU guide on biocide technical equivalence

The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has issued guidelines for companies seeking to apply for recognition that their biocide active ingredient is technically equivalent to a "reference" or already approved ai. EU biocide registration rules, which cover non-crop pesticides, require an assessment of technical equivalence for approval of generic biocides (Agrow No 669, p 12) and for applications for a change in manufacturing location or process (Agrow No 664, p 9). The document covers how and when to apply for an assessment of technical equivalence, and provides information on the assessment process. The new EU biocidal products Regulation (528/2012) means that the assessment will now be performed by the ECHA. Under the previous EU biocidal products Directive (98/8), it was carried out by the relevant EU member-state regulatory authority.  The guidance is available at:
