BOC debuts Sterigas 1000 in Australia
The gas and engineering company, BOC, has launched the fumigant, Sterigas 1000 (ethanedinitrile), in Australia for the control of fungi and insects infesting logs and timber. The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority proposed the approval of the fumigant in June (Agrow No 666, p 26) and this has since been granted. BOC is a member of the German Linde Group, which developed ethanedinitrile with the Australian research organisation, the CSIRO, as an alternative to the ozone-depleting methyl bromide (Agrow No 629, p 25). Linde has launched its fumigants business as Crop Science (Agrow No 664, p 3).
