Certis USA debuts Gemstar in Brazil

Mitsui & Co subsidiary Certis USA has launched a viral bioinsecticide in Brazil for the control of corn earworms (Helicoverpa armigera) on cotton and soybeans. Gemstar (H zea nucleopolyhedrovirus – NPV) can be employed in organic crops and as part of IPM programmes. Brazilian companies BioControle (Indaituba), which also worked on gaining the registration (Agrow No 670, p 25), and Iharabras (Sorocaba) will distribute the product in the country. Gemstar was among three bioinsecticides to be granted emergency approval in July (Agrow ibid). It is used in several countries to control earworms on maize, sorghum and vegetable crops, as well as cotton.
