Australia OKs Nuseed's GM canola tests
The Australian Office of the Gene Technology Regulator (OGTR) concludes that planned field tests on genetically modified canola by Nufarm's seed subsidiary, Nuseed, pose negligible risks to human health or the environment. The canola has altered oil content. Nuseed plans to test up to 200 GM lines with a high proportion of omega-3 fatty acids (Agrow No 667, p 18). The tests are due to be conducted between March 2014 and March 2019. The OGTR's risk assessment and management plan is open to public consultation until October 16th.
