BASF licences Clearfield Plus to MayAgro Seed

BASF has granted Turkish seed company MayAgro Seed (Bursa) a non-exclusive licence to its imidazolinone herbicide tolerance Clearfield Plus technology for sunflowers in certain European countries. The agreement allows MayAgro Seeds to be one of the first seed companies to develop hybrids that are tolerant to BASF's Clearfield Plus line of herbicides, the companies point out. The non-transgenic sunflower hybrids and associated herbicides will be available in Turkey by 2015 and in other key sunflower-growing countries, including Russia, Moldova, Bulgaria and Romania by 2016.  BASF granted a non-exclusive licence to its Clearfield Plus technology for sunflowers to Syngenta last year (Agrow No 652, p 3).
