Zambian authorities to rule on Syngenta/MRI acquisition
The Zambian government is reportedly to decide the fate of Syngenta's bid for the maize seed business, MRI Seed Zambia and MRI Agro, this month. Syngenta offered to acquire the company some two months ago (Agrow No 668, p 3). The country's Competition and Consumer Protection Commission's investigators have completed their investigation and made recommendations to the board, national newspaper The Post reports. Syngenta has promised $500 million of medium-term investment, including the employment of 700 staff to create a business supplying integrated products in crop protection and seeds in Africa.
