France withdraws chlorothalonil restrictions

The French authorities have withdrawn restrictions on the use of products based on Italian agrochemical company Oxon Italia (Milan)'s fungicide, chlorothalonil.  The restrictions for use on wheat were effective from June 1st on Oxon's Viscolor and Coplonil fungicides and Phyteurop's Fongil FL, Dorimat and Fungistop FL. They were caused by a misinterpretation by reviewing authorities of the completeness of Oxon's data package following the active ingredient's inclusion in Annex I of the old EU agrochemical registration Directive (91/414), the company says. The authorities' move coincided with the peak of the cereal fungicide season, it adds. Both companies expect to recover sales, Oxon notes. The European Commission has recently confirmed an extended expiry date for the ai's registration until October 31st 2017 (Agrow No 666, p 5).
