EU adjusts data requirements for generic biocides
EU legislation has been published on changes to the information required for applications for approval of biocide products, including non-crop pesticides. The changes apply to applications for products containing an active ingredient that has already been granted EU approval, but that has been manufactured in a different location or using a different process or starting material. The new rules add a requirement for proof of technical equivalence with the "reference" ai that has already been approved. The European Commission proposed the changes earlier this year (Agrow No 669, p 12) and they are among several adjustments made in recent months to the new EU biocidal products Regulation (528/2012), which began to be implemented on September 1st 2013.
