Brazil MPs mull biopesticide bill
The Brazilian Senate's agriculture committee is considering a proposal this month to create the national natural pesticide aid policy. The proposed aims of the policy, among other measures, is to provide government incentives for the establishment of industrial low-toxicity, natural and non-synthetic pesticide production and distribution units, through credit lines, technical training and aid to farmers. The proposal has already won the backing of other Senate committees, such as that for science and technology earlier this year (Agrow No 667, p 14). The bill would go before a full vote of the upper house, and from there to the lower house, the Chamber of Deputies, following the sessions at the agriculture committee.
