US EPA OKs Isagro biofumigant

The US EPA has proposed the approval of a biofumigant, Dominus (IRF135 - allyl isothiocyanate 983 g/litre), from the Italian agrochemical company Isagro's US subsidiary, Isagro USA. The multipurpose, broad-spectrum, pre-plant soil treatment is intended for the control of certain soil-borne fungi, nematodes, weeds and insects. It is for use on soil to be planted with a range of fruit and vegetable crops, turf and ornamentals at 10-40 gallons/acre (93.5-374 litres/ha). Allyl isothiocyanate is a component of food grade mustard oil. It is exempt from tolerance requirements as the application is for non-food use, the EPA notes. The approval decision is subject to a 15-day public comment period until September 25th.
