EU states press for non-GM protein crops
Several member states are pressing the European Commission to support European production of non-genetically modified protein crops, particularly soybeans. At the September meeting of EU Agriculture Ministers, Slovenia, supported by other member states, called for the promotion of labelling of "non-GM" protein crops for feed. The aim should be to reduce the import of protein crops. The great majority of imported soybeans are GM, at a time when the public requests more GMO-free products, they say.
