US approval for Isagro biofumigant
The US EPA has approved the biofumigant, Dominus (allyl isothiocyanate 983 g/litre), from the Italian agrochemical company Isagro's US subsidiary, Isagro USA. The Agency proposed the approval last month (Agrow No 673, p 31). The broad-spectrum product controls soil-borne fungi, nematodes, weeds and insects. It is for use on soil to be planted with a range of fruit and vegetable crops, turf and ornamentals at 10-40 gallons/acre (93.5-374 litres/ha). Dominus has a half-life in the soil of 20-60 hours, leaves no residue and degrades rapidly in sunlight, Isagro notes. It is the first biofumigant created for use on conventional and organic crops, the company adds. Isagro expects to receive organic certification for Dominus from the USDA by 2015.
