Monsanto to acquire weather data company
Monsanto has agreed to acquire the US agricultural and climate data company, The Climate Corporation (San Francisco, California), for some $930 million. The Climate Company's technology platform "combines hyper-local weather monitoring, agronomic data modelling, and high-resolution weather simulations to deliver a complete suite of full-season monitoring, analytics and risk management products", the companies point out. Monsanto expects the technology to provide near- and long-term growth opportunities for its Integrated Farming Systems platform and its research and development pipeline. The acquisition is expected to be completed during the first quarter of Monsanto's fiscal 2014 ended November 30th.
