Monsanto holds up construction on Argentine maize plant
Monsanto has raised doubts about completing the construction of a maize processing plant in Argentina on schedule, newswire Reuters reports. The company is holding up work after protests by environmentalists interrupted the entry of supplies. Construction was to end early in 2014. Monsanto planned the building last year, including some $350 million of investment and the employment of 400 personnel, and anticipated its supplying 3.5 million ha of maize per year (Agrow No 643, p 2).
