GMO application hold-up in EU ruled as illegal

The European Commission's failure to take action on applications to cultivate genetically modified crops is illegal, says the European Court of Justice's General Court. Its ruling in September was in favour of a lawsuit from DuPont's seed subsidiary, DuPont Pioneer, over an application for EU cultivation approval for insect-resistant Herculex 1 (1507) maize. Pioneer's maize is among several GMO applications from different companies that have been stalled in the EU registration system for many years (Agrow No 635, p 8).
