Maize and sunflower planting to fall in Argentina

Early indications are for reduced acreages for maize, barley and sunflowers in Argentina. Only a few plots of maize have been planted, but intentions are for a 6.6% drop in the crop's area to 5.7 million ha, according to the September estimates from the Ministry of Agriculture. There is a similar pattern with barley planting, with the reported intention of a fall in the area of 4.3% to 1.4 million ha. The estimate for sunflowers is of a drop of 12% to under 1.5 million ha. This year's planting of wheat rose by 7.6% to some 3.4 million ha, the Ministry adds. More advanced reporting of the crop areas including of the dominant soybean crop will be released later this month.
