Integrated solutions in agricultural research and development
The Green Revolution in the 1950s and 1960s saved millions of lives, thanks largely to agricultural research and development. Today, agriculture and agricultural research once again face a unique challenge. Food production must rise by approximately 70% to feed the world's growing population by 2050, according to the UN FAO. The underlying conditions, meanwhile, are becoming increasingly unfavourable: weather fluctuations, soil erosion and the development of resistance among weeds and pests are among the main factors making life increasingly difficult for farmers.
