BASF expands Ghent research facilities
BASF has opened a facility dedicated to plant biotechnology research in Ghent, Belgium. Its CropDesign subsidiary moves into a new wing of the Bio-Accelerator building in Ghent's technology park. The facilities encompass some 4,000 m over four floors, for laboratories, offices and a "state-of the-art" rooftop greenhouse. The latter will be committed to rice research and product development, BASF says. The company hails Ghent as one of the leading centres for European biotechnology research. BASF Plant Science president Peter Eckes notes the proximity to "excellent" institutions such as the Flanders Institute for Biotechnology.
