Syngenta to debut Velista on turf in North America
Syngenta is to introduce the turf fungicide, Velista 50 WDG (DuPont/Mitsui Chemicals' penthiopyrad 50%), in the US and Canada in 2014. Syngenta has acquired "key assets" for Velista from DuPont, the company notes. Velista will be Syngenta's first succinate dehydrogenase inhibitor class turf fungicide, it adds. The fungicide is effective as a stand-alone product or in tank mixes for the control of brown patch (Rhizoctonia solani), dollar spot (Sclerotinia homoeocarpa) and anthracnose (Colletotrichum graminicola). DuPont received US approval for penthiopyrad, as Fontelis, for use on a range of crops in 2012 (Agrow No 636, p 21). The company licensed penthiopyrad from Mitsui Chemicals in 2007 for sale in Australasia, the Americas and Europe (Agrow No 512, p 1).
