Monsanto seeks Australian OK for Bollgard III cotton
Monsanto has applied to the Australian Office of the Gene Technology Regulator (OGTR) for commercial release of its genetically modified insect-resistant Bollgard III and its insect-resistant and herbicide-tolerant Bollgard III/Roundup Ready Flex cotton. Bollgard III combines the established Bollgard II (MON15985), which produces the Bt Cry1Ac and Cry2Ab toxins, with Syngenta's COT102, which produces the Vip3A toxin, for the control of lepidopteran pests. Roundup Ready Flex (MON88913) is tolerant to glyphosate herbicide. The OGTR approved field tests on the cotton lines in 2010 (Agrow No 596, p 19). It expects to issue a risk assessment and management plan on the commercial release application in March 2014.
