FMC/Plato debut corn earworm pheromone in Brazil

FMC and US company Plato Industries (Houston, Texas) have launched a pheromone used for determining the presence of corn earworms (Helicoverpa armigera) in Brazil, national media report. The pheromone, Plato, attracts only adult earworm moths. Monitoring for the presence is becoming more urgent, FMC claims, as the pest, which has devastated cotton and soybean crops in two states this year (Agrow No 673, p 19), is spreading across another 11 states, newswire Agrolink reports.
