Experts defer POPs decision for dicofol
International experts have deferred a decision on whether to add the organochlorine acaricide, dicofol, to the Stockholm Convention on persistent organic pollutants (POPs). Delegates were unable to reach a decision at the ninth meeting of the Convention's POPs review committee in Rome, Italy on October 14th-18th. The European Commission had called for dicofol to be added to the POPs list. It has already been phased out in the EU, but the Commission maintains that the potential for long-range environmental transport means that regional action alone is insufficient to protect the environment and human health (Agrow No 662, p 7).
