Clariant aims for expansion
German specialty chemical company Clariant (Muttenz) aims to become the leading supplier for agrochemicals by 2018. It has renamed its Crop Protection division as Crop Solutions and will expand into: guide formulations for complex combinations of active ingredients; tank-mix adjuvants; seed treatments; foliar fertilisers; open innovation partnerships for complex new developments; and field performance testing for customers and farmers. While Crop Solutions will continue to operate globally, the company expects exceptional growth in Latin America. "We plan to build on our already-powerful position in inerts and adjuvants, and move into related areas of agricultural chemistry," says the head of Competence Center Crop Solutions Peter Baur. Clariant began focusing on the crop protection industry in 2012, when it revealed ambitions to be the top player within the formulants and adjuvants sector of the industry by 2018 (Agrow No 634, p 7).
