Agchem residue violations in third of Brazilian food
Around one in three samples of Brazilian food contained illegal pesticide residues between 2011 and 2012, the national health surveillance agency, the Anvisa, reports. The findings were worse in 2011 than in 2012, its national pesticide residue analysis in foods programme, the Para, found. Irregularities were found in 36% of food samples two years ago, but such findings dropped to 29% for samples taken last year. That remains a rise on the 28% found in 2010 (Agrow No 630, p 16).
