Expanded EU approval for two biocides
Formal approvals to expand EU biocide uses for two existing active ingredients have been issued by the European Commission. Etofenprox, which already holds approval for use in wood preservatives, has been registered for insecticide use. The rodenticide, aluminium phosphide, can now be used for the control of other vertebrates through the release of phosphine. The new uses will be added to the list of approved ais in the EU biocidal products Regulation (528/2012) on July 1st 2015 to give regulators and companies time to adjust to the conditions attached to the authorisations. The decisions were cleared by the EU regulatory committee in September (Agrow No 674, p 10).
