US court orders ESA consultations

A US court has ordered the EPA and the Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) to complete consultations within two years under the Endangered Species Act (ESA) on the effects of seven pesticides on red-legged frogs. The order follows a 2011 lawsuit by the environmentalist group, the Centre for Biological Diversity (CBD), against the agencies for failing to complete consultations on numerous pesticides under a 2006 legal settlement with the CBD (Agrow No 627, p 16). The EPA had agreed to assess the effects of 66 pesticides on the frogs over a three-year period (Agrow No 503, p 10).
