NZ industry advances seed treatment stewardship
The New Zealand agvet industry association, Agcarm, and the New Zealand Grain and Seed Trade Association have introduced a guide to promote the safe handling and management of pesticide-treated seed. The "Guide to Seed Treatment Stewardship" is primarily aimed at seed companies and seed treatment specialists to ensure the handling of treated seed according to regulations and best practice. It covers techniques for mitigating risks to pollinators, animals and waterways, including measures to minimise dust and pesticide drift. The guide is adapted from a similar stewardship initiative launched by CropLife America and the American Seed Trade Association earlier this year (Agrow No 661, p 17).
