EFSA considers herbicide MRLs for two new GM crops

Herbicide residues in imports of two new genetically modified crops, BASF's imdazolinone herbicide-tolerant soybeans and DuPont's glyphosate-tolerant oilseed rape, are unlikely to pose a consumer health risk, concludes the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). The EFSA has proposed adjustments to the EU maximum residue limits (MRLs) for the herbicides. Its conclusions follow evaluation of applications by the companies to set import tolerances in preparation of the commercialisation of the GM lines in overseas markets.
