US industry weighs costs of endangered species testing

The dual analysis by the US EPA and wildlife agencies of the risks posed by pesticides to endangered species is set to cost taxpayers an additional $474 million over the next ten years, according to a study commissioned by the US industry association, CropLife America (CLA). Completion of the scheduled registration review cases by 2023 would require a 13-fold increase in budget and a 25-fold increase in staffing levels at the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) and 17 times more funding and 71 times more staff at the Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), the Summit Consulting report states.
