EU takes action on 1507 maize application

The European Commission has finally referred its proposal to approve the cultivation of DuPont/Dow AgroSciences' genetically modified insect-resistant Herculex 1 (1507) maize to EU Ministers for a vote. This step in the EU registration process should have been taken in 2009, but 1507 maize is among several GM crops that have been stalled in the EU system for many years. The restart is in response to a September ruling by the European Court of Justice that the Commission had failed to fulfil its obligations to follow registration procedures for 1507 maize (Agrow No 674, p 8).
