MEPs call for stronger environmental policy
The European Parliament has amended proposals on EU environmental policy to add specific reference to legislation covering agrochemicals and biocides. The move would emphasise the requirement to consider overall environmental policy when taking any measures related to such products. The amendments were voted through in October, when the Parliament endorsed a deal with EU Ministers on the proposed seventh EU environmental action programme (7th EAP). The programme, which will run until 2020, provides the structure for the EU's entire environmental policy. MEPs urged member states to enforce environmental law more rigorously, and stressed that environmental concerns must be "built in" to various sector-specific policies.
