Syngenta gains US OK for glufosinate on Bt sweet corn
Syngenta has received US approval for Bayer CropScience's herbicide, Liberty 280 SL (glufosinate-ammonium), to be used on its genetically modified insect-resistant and glufosinate-tolerant sweet corn. All of Syngenta's Attribute and Attribute II sweet corn varieties can be treated with the herbicide, thereby broadening the weed management options for growers, the company points out. Attribute sweet corn produces the Bt Cry1Ab toxin for the control of European corn borers (Ostrinia nubilalis), corn earworms (Helicoverpa zea) and fall armyworms (Spodoptera frugiperda). Attribute II combines the Cry1Ab toxin with the Vip3A toxin for enhanced control of earworms and armyworms and additional control of black cutworms (Agrotis ipsilon).
