Bayer/Fundecitrus ink Brazil citrus R&D deal
Bayer CropScience has agreed a deal with the Brazilian citrus protection fund, the Fundecitrus, to "accelerate the development of technology to improve the sustainability of citrus production". The partners have launched the five-year agreement as Citrus Unidos (United Citrus), in which Bayer is to invest some €3 million ($4 million) by 2018. One of the partnership's key targets is to control citrus greening disease (Huanglongbing), which has severely impacted the sector in Brazil since 2004. Other target products include psyllid attractants or repellents, vector controls such as the parasitoid wasp, Tamaraxia radiata, and the early detection and diagnosis of the disease.
