Brazil emergency OKs two Dow insecticides
Brazil has granted Dow AgroSciences two insecticide emergency registrations for the control of corn earworms (Helicoverpa spp) on cotton and soybeans. The company's Tracer (spinosad) is for use on both crops, while Intrepid (methoxyfenozide) is approved for use on cotton. The company is unique in offering two modes of action against the pest that has devastated crops in the past year, it says. That has led to state of emergencies being declared in some states (Agrow No 676, p 20). A recent decree permits emergency insecticide import approvals, and fast-tracking of approvals as well as the setting of other measures such as IPM and intensive monitoring (see this issue).
