Bayer opens US bee research facility
Bayer CropScience has opened a US bee research facility in Clayton, North Carolina. The 1,200 sq ft (112 m2) Clayton Bee Care Center will house researchers studying all aspects of honey bee health, including factors affecting proper crop pollination, and treating and preventing diseases to create healthier hives, the company points out. Bayer established a global bee care centre in Monheim, Germany last year (Agrow No 635, p 3). It began constructing a bee research facility at its US headquarters in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina this year (Agrow No 665, p 3). That is expected to be completed in spring 2014.
