US to OK Nichino's tolfenpyrad for food use
The US EPA has proposed the first food-use registrations of Nihon Nohyaku subsidiary Nichino America's insecticide, tolfenpyrad. The proposed new uses include applications to cotton, potatoes, leafy vegetables, citrus and stone fruit, persimmons, pomegranates and grapevines, and an import tolerance for tea. The registration application covers a 155 g/litre emulsion concentrate and a 157 g/litre suspension concentrate formulation for use at 14-27 fl oz/acre (1-2 litres/ha). The EPA approved tolfenpyrad for use on greenhouse ornamentals in 2010 (Agrow No 595, p 22). The proposed food-use registrations are open to public comment until December 18th.
