Emamectin remains banned in Brazil state Bahia
The sale and use of emamectin benzoate insecticide remains banned in the Brazilian state of Bahia, the generic pesticide industry association, the Aenda, reports. The state plant protection regulator, the Adab, filed an appeal against state court's decision to annul the right of growers to use the products as they had not been approved for use by the registration authorities (Agrow No 669, p 18). That followed an emergency import approval of the active ingredient by the national Ministry of Agriculture earlier in the year (Agrow No 662, p 22). President Dilma Rousseff granted the Ministry special autonomous powers in October to permit the use of pesticides that do not cause grave damage to the environment (Agrow No 676, p 20). However, the courts again found against the Adab, the Aenda reports.
