Canada OKs continued use of clofentezine
The Canadian Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) proposes continued registration of the acaricide, clofentezine, subject to risk-reduction measures to protect human health and the environment. The measures include: a two-day restricted entry interval (REI) for hand thinning in apples, pears, peaches and nectarines and a 12-hour REI for other activities; a ten-day REI for hand pruning, training and tying of raspberries and a 12-hour REI for other activities; and 12-hour REIs for strawberries and outdoor nursery stock. It also calls for advisory label statements to protect non-target organisms and 1-5 m buffer zones to protect aquatic life. The proposed re-evaluation decision is open to public comment until February 1st 2014.
