Environment MEPs oppose 1507 maize
Members of the European Parliament's Environment Committee have urged EU Ministers to vote against the proposed cultivation approval of DuPont/Dow AgroSciences' genetically modified insect-resistant Herculex 1 (1507) maize. The European Commission referred the proposal to Ministers in November after an EU court ruled that prolonged delays had infringed EU procedures (Agrow No 676, p 11). Environmental MEPs claim that the GM line puts non-target lepidopteran insects at risk. They have forwarded their proposed resolution opposing 1507 maize to the full Parliament for a vote.
