US EPA to approve Sumitomo's ethaboxam
The US EPA proposes to approve Sumitomo Chemical subsidiary Valent USA Corporation's fungicidal seed treatment, AP2 (ethaboxam 384 g/litre), for use on cereals (excluding rice), legume vegetables (excluding cowpeas and field peas) and canola. It is for the control of oomycete diseases such as Pythium spp, Phytophthora spp and Aphanomyces spp that cause seed decay, seedling dieback and root rot. Sumitomo acquired the ethaboxam business from South Korean company L G Life Sciences in late 2011 (Agrow No 630, p 3). The EPA granted an import tolerance for ethaboxam on grapevines in 2006 (Agrow No 505, p 23). The proposed US use approval is open to public comment until January 20th 2014.
